So called "Truth in Lending Auditors"...for real or a scam?
Q. I have recently read of an outfit out in Wyoming that advertises that they will help you find violations of federal lending laws on your existing mortgage. Supposedly, they will then take said information and put it to good use to "encourage" a bank, that would otherwise not do it, give you a mortgage modification. Apparently they would have you believe that all mortgage documents are rife with errors, and the bank will only be too glad to assist you, in return for you not taking them to court. This sounds way too good to be true. Anyone out there familiar with this?

A. SCAM. Modifications are offered by banks for no charge!! I do Mods for a living and it sickens me when someone already hurting financially gives money to a con artist. They end up losing money they needed to pay off a medical bill, credit card or to prevent foreclosure. If you qualify for a modification, you only need yourself and organization to get it done.

Q. Info. on my desk saying that people underwent a move to a different building in 1987. As if this wasn't disruptive enough, someone then allowed "auditors" into the building to check people's timesheets. People would have "worked to regulations" after that. Leave it to "auditors" to "fix" Collins.

A. Not really, if there is not proper supervision the internal workforce could have messed up on their own. Sorta like having too many divisions that could not sync together. The right hand unaware what the left one is doing. I manage a office for the Prez of a company, if I don't stay on top of what part of a project everyone is working on the whole system implodes & quickly.

What does the last name "Auditore" means?(3O points)?
Q. In Assassin's Creed, Ezio bears the last name "Auditore". In English, the word "Auditor" is from the root word "Audio" hence meaning "listener". I would like to know what this means in Itallian. I also want to know how to pronounce it. Thanks!

A. To hear the word pronounced go to the following link and click on the 'listen' under the Italian version...it means the same meaning in Italian. However, the word auditor in English also means one who audits accounts or one who examines and adjusts or corrects accounts...it could be a play on words.

A. Yes, many people are recruited through the internet because of the huge need of expats. Most recruitment agencies have their job vacancies on their website where you can apply online. See the jobsindubai page on my site: It has links to all Dubai recruitment agencies and jobsites. The best you can do is find jobs that fit your experience, make a short & strong CV and apply (many times). And of course you have to be patient, like with finding a new job in any country. Good Luck

Is there a Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) that mandates audits NOT be performed by INSIDERS?
Q. The books being audited are for a Homeowners Association which is governed by state condominium law. The state condominium law mandates that audits be performed annually according to gaap. One Homeowner is the Treasurer. They got another homeowner (who is not a CPA and may have little to no financial training) to do an "audit" on the Treasurer's books for the HOA. This would be similar to one employee of a company being called upon to audit the financial work of another employee managing the company's books, or an "internal audit". The company may or may not be called upon to have an external audit, depending on how they are organized as a private or public company. The HOA is not a public company but is governed by… [cont.]

A. Audits are performed by CPA who is independent of the entity being audited. What is being done in this case will be of little value and cannot be described as an audit. There is no way a non CPA can attest that your records are in accordance with GAAP. He will not have sufficient knowldge of GAAP to start with. His opinion will be meaningless on these financials. An audit from a very small local CPA would be about $5,000. I am guessing this short cut is being done to save some money. GAAP deals with debits and credits and does not address audits. GAAS are the generally accepted auditing standards. This treasurer is taking on an uncessary risk by not having audit performed. I suggest raising a complaint with state condo board.
