What services and products can I add to a senior home service?
Q. What do seniors, typically over the age of 70, buy and use? What services can be added to a already existed home care service for the elderly?
Asked by Dan P - Fri Feb 27 15:01:30 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Anything that helps keep them safe and comfortable in their own home, from cleaning and painting right down to walking the dog and mowing the lawn. And yes even wash windows. Too many services just take care of the person , not their home. Maybe they cannot clean the oven, or change a light bulb. Or scrub the bathtub. Simple things that mean a lot to them.

What support services are provided to people who are mentally handicapped today?
Q. What support services are provided to people who are mentally handicapped today and how is the service today compared with the service they recieved in the 1930's?
Asked by volleyball - Tue Mar 3 21:44:07 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It depends on what the person with a mental disability needs. A vocational rehabilitation counselor will provide available services from their office based on individual assessment of the client's capabilities versus the office resources. But cumulatively, services are much better than in 1930's America. First, people with disabilities are not automatically institutionalized away--out of sight, out of mind. Secondly, they are legally entitled to obtain a free appropriate and quality public education (aka special education) in their local school district. This was unknown in the 1930's. You did not educate people with disabilities because they were not expected to be productive in the public sphere doing anything.

Electrical question...What size should service wires be for 2 one-hundred amp services in a two family house?
Q. I ask that becuase NEC code specifies wire size for services according to amperage for single and multifamily dwellings...but don't specify if you're suppose to add the amperage up if you have more than one service...or the wire size that will accomodate 100 amp service will still be sufficient with another 100 amp service.
Asked by Scarface - Sun Sep 2 23:42:34 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. this depends on whether both 100 amp services will use the same drop line or will have separate drop lines with separate weather heads...if both of them will be gang mounted with one service head then you will have to use 2/0 copper or 4/0 aluminum...if they are` both going to have there own weather head and services then you would only need 1/0 copper or 2/0 aluminum...plus grounds for both services...

Do social services have the rights to put an elderly person in a home without that persons permission?
Q. My elderly grandma as been in hospital 2 weeks & the doctor agreed to let her home. However the family as been arguing over aftercare arrangements & 1 family involved social services. A. Even if your grandma gave the family member who wants to put her into a home a medical power of attorney, she can revoke that if she is of sound mind. There is a concern about who will provide adequate care for your grandmother when she comes home from the hospital. Depending on her conditions, provisions can be made for home care. Contact your local senior services office to ask what sort of support they can offer. Does someone need to be with your grandmother all the time? If so, can the ones who want to help her stay at home take turns? Social service people in the hospital seem to want to push the elderly into nursing homes right away. It makes you wonder whether the nursing homes are giving them commissions. When the… [cont.]

It would keep cost down and help me keep my sites on whats important thats business. Not the paper trail.

What are some lawn maintenance/design services that are not offered much, and people would be willing to pay 4?
Q. We are expanding a lawn maintenance business we already have, and are looking to offer more services. We want to know what people are wanting, specifically services not offered much, because we are wanting to make a profit. Clients are willing to pay a little extra if it's something they want/need done and we are the only business who offer the service. Anyway, it does not even have to be lawn related. Any cool or interesting ideas, that would make our business stand out?

A. not knowing how big your company is and what you are already offering - you could do pruning and hedge trimming - you could offer aerating and leave removal - if you have a good mulcher on your equipment offer to mulch the leaves on the grass they will deteriorate and feed the soil and cut down on the fertilizer need to feed the grass - you could clean gutters - offer your customers whatever they want - people like to deal with one company that do a good job than 2 or 3 company's that will only do one thing

A. If you're asking from the perspective of a potential investor, its up to you to investigate before you invest your hard-earned money. If you're asking from the perspective of a potential venture capitalist or a person wanting to begin ,an investment company, the BEST way to discover the answer is to ask an investment banker. What home custodial care services are available for seniors?
Q. My father is a non-ambulatory Alzheimers patient in his 7th year in a nursing home. We are considering bringing him home, and are considering hiring daily or twice daily custodial care services. Do any of you know about the types of services, what they do and what they cost? General or specific answers are both helpful.

A. You will find Home health services in some states, they will send a nurse at least once a week to do vitals etc. and may have an aid from home health come and bathe the person a few times a week also. Care givers can usually be found through home health agencies, and you will want references from care givers, and check those references!!! there are alot of great care givers out there, I have personally worked with many of them over the years, I did home care for many years.

Q. I want to get a Toshiba Gigabeat for Christmas. Which services can I get that allow me to download legal music for this player? I don't think iTunes will work and that is what I'm using right now for my iPod. I prefer a company that allows you to pay per song or a company that allows you to pay a certain price per month and allows you to keep your songs when you cancel your service. Any help will be appreciated.

How do how cat sitting services place liability on the pet owner in the case of flea infestation?
Q. I'm setting up a cat sitting service, and need information on: 1.) At least two other ways (apart from deposits and contracts) that cat sitting services place liability on the pet owner in the case that there is a flea infestation (of staff and premises) from a client's cat. 2.) How much they charge the client for a deposit to cover possible flea infestation.
Asked by nauctavia - Fri May 9 16:41:13 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Take a look at the pet sitting market and get some ideas from them. Call up a few of the sitting services and ask about the pricing for flea infestation scenarios. Most boarding locations will not accept a pet that does have a flea problem. That is done to prevent other pets from developing flea problems and to keep the staff healthy. If you are able to obtain a copy of a pet sitting agreement from one of the established firms, you would have a better legal idea of what you are dealing with.

How does an international traveler on a visa get services that require a social security number?
Q. Most services like telephone, cable TV and internet ask for a social security number in order to establish service, primarily because they want to run a credit check. A. Basically, when you buy music from iTunes, it comes with a copyright protection called DRM. These DRM-protected songs are locked so that they only work with Apple MP3 players. That means that if you bought a Microsoft Zune, you cannot use iTunes music. So, what is the solution? You have to burn a CD. When you do this, the DRM is removed (because the music is converted to a non-DRM-compatible media). After you burn the CD, you can rip it to your PC as an MP3 file which no longer has DRM. Alternatively, you can use TuneClone ( ). TuneClone makes a virtual CD-ROM drive, tricking your PC into believing that you are burning a CD. Therefore, the DRM is removed without wasting a CD. How is custody determined when social services takes the kids?
Q. A woman I know of is most likely going to lose her kids due to abuse. Kentucky social services is talking about giving "indefinate" custody to one of the kids' (divorced) grandparents or other relatives like an aunt or uncle. How will they determine who will get the children? Living conditions, location (as in how close to the mother), financial stability, etc? Can an unmarried, heterosexual, financially stable couple ask for custody? How much will small-town politics help someone who doesn't deserve the kids gain custody? If custody is granted to someone and they move in with the mother, will social services re-take the kids? **Anything** you can tell me related to the above would be appreciated, especially if you can provide links.

A. The best interests doctrine will always come into play. Before the custodial rights can be permanently terminated, the courts have to get involved. At that time, the judge, in conjunction with Protective Services, will evaluate the parents -- and determine if, in fact, abuse did occur. . . what type and how severe that abuse was . . . as well as who the perpetrator was. They'll determine which of the parents (if either) are more apropriate to care for the children -- mentally, physically, financially. If the parents live together, or are both abusive (or provide an inhospitable environment -- such as alcholics, drug abusers . . . ) the court can look outside the parents to grandparents, adult siblings, aunts/uncles. . . If nobody… [cont.]

A. That sounds like a good idea. You might want to consider a few things: You could make the project completely Internet based. Your service could send out emails in the form of a generic cover letter. The form could state a person's intentions in generic terms and say that a personal message will be coming later. You could also provide a chat room where the jilted could commiserate with each other. It might be different to make the whole process transparent so that everyone who visits your site could see the interchange of ideas and conflicts. In fact, the other users could provide their own ideas about reconciliation or retribution. Personally, I wouldn't have the temerity to use such a service, but it may be that the time is right… [cont.]
