Has anyone ever filed Renters Refund? How long does it take to get your refund?
Q. In the state of Maine, and many others, you can file a Renters Refund, and get a refund on your rent or mortgage every year. I sent mine in last week and was wondering how long I will have to wait for my refund check.

What happens to your federal refund direct deposit if you added your check number to the account number?
Q. I called my wife to get our routing and account numbers while I was filing our federal taxes so the refund could be direct deposited. She relayed the check number to me at the end of the account number and I entered the extra numbers. The "Where's My Refund" site states that my federal refund was deposited on February 12. The bank has no record of the deposit (no surprise). My question is, what will happen to my refund? Also, how do I get a human voice at the IRS to talk to?
Asked by Jason - Wed Feb 17 13:02:21 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The bank will reject the deposit and return it to the IRS. The IRS will then cut a check and mail it to you in 4 to 6 weeks. Don't waste your time calling the IRS over this for at LEAST 3 weeks. It will take that long for them to get the status update from FMS, the agency that actually processed tax refunds. Once the IRS has the status information on your refund, you should see your check in your mailbox within about a week or so, depending upon mail time.

What does this tax question mean regarding refund of state/local taxes?
Q. "Did you receive a refund of state and/or local income taxes during 2009 from your 2008 tax return or a prior year tax return?" In 2008 we got a refund because we overpaid from what they took out of our paychecks. Does this mean I enter how much the refund was? Or is this talking about some other kind of refund? I use the standard deduction and the money where the refund comes from was withheld from my paycheck.
Asked by Mamacita - Mon Feb 22 15:38:55 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Tax refunds from state and local governments are treated as income by the IRS and must be reported on your federal tax return.

How can i refund my unused ticket in etihad airways? How it is being process?
Q. I don't need anymore my backway ticket so I want to refund it. My airline is etihad airways. Is there any surcharge or penalty in refunding my ticket? By how much?
Asked by Lope V - Tue Nov 6 22:02:22 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. depends on your ticket. If it is a cheap one, sold on roundtrip basis, you won't get any money back (in fact, they could bill you the difference between what you paid, and the one-way fare). Talk to the travel agency who sold you the ticket

Does a state tax refund take longer to get back than a federal?

How do I file my tax refund if my husband owes on a back debt to the IRS?
Q. HI! My husband's tax refund for the next 2 years will go right back to the IRS for a debt he occurred to them before we were married (we got married 1 year ago). Since I am due a tax refund this year, is there any way of filing where I will actually get the refund due to me & it won't go toward his debt? I realize when married his debt is mine & vice versa. I just wanted to know if there was any way.

Why would the IRS refund some and not others who are making installment payments on back taxes?
Q. I received a full refund and have been making installment payments for more than a year, but others on here say the IRS will take the refund and apply it to your balance. I'm confused!
Asked by Micki - Sat Feb 7 11:05:07 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. if you owe the IRS and you get a refund, it is a mistake. They take money from your refund to pay your liability. In other words, if you have back taxes owed and you are due a refund, they take theirs first! Don't expect a check!

Will the IRS hold the tax relief refund for 6 months like they did the initial refund?
Q. I am owed back child support - over $16,000 to be more specific. I did receive his tax refund for 2007 but they held it for 6 months before sending it to me. I am wondering if anyone knows any specifics about the tax relief refund. Will they hold this for 6 months also or will it be automatically sent to me?
Asked by jt_tam_thompson - Thu May 15 22:23:18 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm in the exact same situation- and the check still has to be transferred from the IRS to the child support agency and then sent to you, which means it will take months. I just called about it here in Ohio for my son's back support.

What is the refund process for airlines to refund a fare?
Q. Okay say that there is a RULE 240 Refund-- the passangers flight was cancelled and no reaccomodation can be agreeably made...The airline has granted the passenger a refund for the fare amount. What channels does the refund have to funnel through? I think that there is some organization called "ARC" involved somewhere. How long does it generally take? Thanks!
Asked by The Grinning Duck - Wed Jun 14 03:11:22 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First it depends on where you purchased the ticket from. If you purchased it directly from the airline, the refund should have been done instantly once it was agreed upon, either at the ticket counter, gate or through the Reservations Call Center. If you purchased a ticket through a website such as Priceline, Cheaptickets, Hotwire, Lowestfare.com, etc and it is a NON-Refundable ticket, you will have to go through those companies to receive anything in return. Those companies lock out airlines and we can not see the information necessary to complete any transactions involving a change to the ticket. If you went through a Travel Agency, you would sometimes have to go through them. I dont understand why ARC would be getting involved… [cont.]

How can I get a refund anticipation loan even though my refund should be offset?
Q. My anticipated refund is about 1600 dollars. My outstanding Dept of Education debt is about 1400. Is there a company (not HR Block...) that will issue the check immediately before the offset kicks in?
Asked by NotCatholicEither - Mon Apr 27 02:35:31 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No. If you are flagged for an offset, none of the banks that do RALs will issue a RAL. As soon as the IRS kicks back the offset flag to the ERO, the RAL will be denied.

What determines the refund amount for the stimulus checks we are to receive?
Q. I have filed taxes for 18 years now and have no dependents. I don't make a lot of money so I wanted to know what I should get in my refund. Thanks for your time!
Asked by Dinos in the Garden - Fri May 9 09:45:27 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Q. I received my stimulus payment, but it was less than what my friends and neighbors received. Why? A. Your economic stimulus payment is based on information provided on your 2007 income tax return. Many but not all taxpayers qualify for the maximum basic payment of $600 for singles or $1,200 for married couples. Many parents are also receiving an additional $300 for each qualifying child, born after Dec. 31, 1990. Your payment may be less than the maximum for one or more of the following reasons: You are single and your net income tax liability is less than $600. If you file Form 1040 net income tax liability is the amount shown on Line 57, plus the amount on Line 52. You are married and your net income tax liability is less than $1,2 [cont.]

A. If you entered your bank account routing information into your 1040 form in the area provided, you should get a directly deposited rebate. They can't go by the info on the check you mailed, though.

what happens when your income tax refund is more than what you are supposed to pay back in bankruptcy?
Q. I have a plan to pay 90.00 a month for 36 months. Which I will end up paying back 3240.00. And that is probably the amount that I will get back from my income tax refund since I am single with a daughter and make less than 20,000.00 a year. Does the trustee keep my refund and if so how will that effect my payment plan. Also just to mention I have 34 months left of the plan so I just started making payments. SO will they take all my refund and if that is so does that mean that I would be through with my payment plan
Asked by broke - Wed Jan 3 15:18:42 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You should check with your attorney. Some bankruptcy judges would require you to pay your tax refund into your plan, others would allow you to keep it. You may need to amend your schedules to exempt your tax refund.

How do poor people get these ridiculously high tax refund checks?
Q. How do poor people get such large refunds? The word 'refund' to me means that you had to pay the money first and then get the money back at a later time. Some of these people are unemployed/get paid low wages/have zillions of kids... etc and get big refunds. I know they don't pay enough in to get $5,000 back. What is going on with that?

A. You have to have kids to do it. The "additional child tax credit" and the "earned income credit" are both refundable credits. That means that you can get money back that you've never paid in. The IRS is fully aware of it, and Congress did it on purpose. I once gave a 20-year-old girl with twins a $6600 refund no one was expecting. She qualified for both credits and had filled out her W-4 as "single-one" rather than "head of household-3". I told her to fill out another W-4 and giver herself a $400/month raise. *** By the way, if you don't mind a little politics, this is the biggest joke of the new century. While democrats are screeming "tax cuts for the rich", the real tax benefits of this century have been overwhelmingly for the… [cont.]

Is it possible to get a refund from self employment when I haven't paid any taxes?
Q. I have not yet paid any taxes or had any deducted from my self-employment earnings, but TurboTax is showing that I'm due a refund. Is this possible? Could it be because of the EIC? Again, I have not paid any taxes at all this year, so I'm confused how I can get a refund.
Asked by L P - Tue Apr 15 02:30:17 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The EIC and the Additional Child Tax Credit are called refundable credits. What that means is that you can get money back that you didn't pay in and the only credits which can help lower self employment taxes.
