A. I had this code last year and got my refund about 8 weeks after I originally filed. Called many times was always told something different. One time they said there was nothing wrong but a big delay in processing most refunds and it affected mine. Had another person tell me I owed money, another saying I did not. I have got to the point of where I believe it when I see it. And in my case 2 months later and I did. A big refund could definitely flag the system if it is the first time having one that big or if there is something different this year than last year. So hopefully you get your refund. If you do though it will prob be much later than what they tell you or what the website says. Sorry... Good luck

A. To the best of my knowledge that code 1201 stands for offset their is a direct number you can call to see if you have any outstanding debts.Debts Recovery 1-800-304-3107 if their are debts owed the irs will deduct from your refund and disburst the rest of your refund to you it is considered a refund delay. But you will receive the rest of your refund.

reference number 1201 to the IRS?
Q. Has anyone received there return after reference number 1201? I filed 01/29 2009, and March 7th received a CP05 letter, my code has been 1201 since, I have called many, many times telling me different things, from you file was corrupted and it looks OK, now to it is being reviewed, and that I have to wait another 30 days. Has anyone received their refund after this???

A. Charles: The reason you continue to get varying answers is because code 1201 is a generic code and can be for many different reasons. I had a client finally get a refund this past week but that does not mean you will get yours in the same amount of time (7 weeks) because your code 1201 is probably different. This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided. Click on my profile to read more. A. I was suppose to have my deposit on 01/26 but it got delayed with the code 1121. Along with thousands of others claims because of tax changes the IRS was not ready for. This morning I had code 1201. I called and they said the refund was released and due to direct deposit on 02/16 this friday. With that code they should be able to give you more of an answer if you call the nuber given on Where's My Refund page. Good Luck

A. Did your IRS taxpayer advocate tell you your case was closed and your refund was going to be issued? Mine told me his word was the correct most updated information and to ignore the WMR site. (I think I remember you from previous posts that you were working with the TAS)

IRS updated my Where is my refund to reference 1201. To make a very long story short here is my question......
Q. I called the IRS at the number provided and they told me my check would be sent out on 3/21. I orginally had my return set up as direct deposit but my refund was offset , so I had to fill out an injured spouse claim (spouse's student loan). So here is my question...Will my return be direct deposited or will it be sent out in the mail???
Asked by TK - Wed Mar 19 14:19:51 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Since you filed again with the injured spouse claim this should be some help... on this page it talks about injured spouse and deposit options. the paragraph just under the options says... ""The split-refund option is available to taxpayers who choose direct deposit regardless of whether they filed the original returns on paper or in electronic format using Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, 1040-PR, 1040NR, 1040NR-EZ or 1040-SS. >>> However, taxpayers filing Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, cannot opt to split their refunds."" This seems to suggest that as long as you filed your Injured spouse claim and requested a direct deposit that you should get any refund direct deposited.

OMG!! HELP ME NOW "HSBC & H&R BLOCK"?
Q. Today i used my h&r block emerald card to sign up for a discount with t-mobile easypay and i know the card was no good because my refund never came. But the 1.00 dollar was approved "say what" so i called the card in and found out 1067.00 dollars was direct deposit on June 5 2009 BUT the balance say 00.87 cent then i go online it say no deposit of any kind and HSBC Taxpayer Financial Services website is down. I did my taxes at h&r block on 01/24/09 and because i owed the IRS they took 400.00 out of 1564.94 and gave me a reference number 1201 and 1067.00 dollars is that i was getting back but the IRS website still say reference number 1201

A. Call the IRS and get someone to look at your account and tell you a) how much refund actually was and b) what happened to the refund. The IRS can tell you how much was kept for a prior year return. The IRS can tell you how much was sent to HSBC. Then call HSBC. When you had your taxes done, you owed fees. With a RAL, you could have owed $$$...and if your refund wasn't what you thought it was, you could have ended up owing HSBC. (For example, if the refund was to include $600 rebate, you may have actually only qualifed for $0 rebate, less the $400 owed, less fees and now owe HSBC money.) Some people owe HSBC for prior returns and think that going to HRB instead, of say, Liberty Tax, is going to fool the bank.

A. The wheels of the government turn VERY slowly. You will eventually hear from them. You may not get a refund IF what he owes in Child Support and back taxes equal to more than your refund. They are delaying it because they have to figure out how much your hubby owes. They will take out back Child Support too. This happened to me with my ex, he owed back taxes, they took the whole refund and he still owed another $200 - $300. I know it's frustrating to wait, but there isn't a set time frame as to when you will here from them

A. I've been through the lovely audit process and it's horrible. I hope it is indeed a check for you and not the BS audit letter that wants you to show proof of all things imaginable. It is odd that they listed deposit dates for you before they audited. Usually it gives you a message that you will be getting contacted through a letter etc. Good Luck!

Good Luck!

A. 'hey - going through the same thing... there are alot of people that are as well. It means that they are checking your income, dependents, etc, to make sure that you are getting the correct amount. Have you tried to call them and find out? Oh, I have also heard that it is checking for fraud. Yeah... scary to me to, but its the IRS. Just try to be patient, and the best of luck to you. Keep me posted and I will do the same for you.
