Has anyone gotten IRS reference number 1201 and actually gotten a refund?

A. I had this code last year and got my refund about 8 weeks after I originally filed. Called many times was always told something different. One time they said there was nothing wrong but a big delay in processing most refunds and it affected mine. Had another person tell me I owed money, another saying I did not. I have got to the point of where I believe it when I see it. And in my case 2 months later and I did. A big refund could definitely flag the system if it is the first time having one that big or if there is something different this year than last year. So hopefully you get your refund. If you do though it will prob be much later than what they tell you or what the website says. Sorry... Good luck

A. To the best of my knowledge that code 1201 stands for offset their is a direct number you can call to see if you have any outstanding debts.Debts Recovery 1-800-304-3107 if their are debts owed the irs will deduct from your refund and disburst the rest of your refund to you it is considered a refund delay. But you will receive the rest of your refund.

reference number 1201 to the IRS?
Q. Has anyone received there return after reference number 1201? I filed 01/29 2009, and March 7th received a CP05 letter, my code has been 1201 since, I have called many, many times telling me different things, from you file was corrupted and it looks OK, now to it is being reviewed, and that I have to wait another 30 days. Has anyone received their refund after this???

A. Charles: The reason you continue to get varying answers is because code 1201 is a generic code and can be for many different reasons. I had a client finally get a refund this past week but that does not mean you will get yours in the same amount of time (7 weeks) because your code 1201 is probably different. This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided. Click on my profile to read more. The guy I spoke with at the IRS said that on Wed. morning they got a new upgrade to there computers and it has to do with the processing. He said my check is scheduled to be mailed out on the 6th. I informed him that I requested Direct Deposit. He checked it again and said yea it is checked off next to Direct Deposit but hes showing paper check for the 6th. He said its still possible to get Direct Deposit by the 3rd, but if not then it will be paper check. He also said there was nothing wrong with my return, and that it looked fine. A. I was suppose to have my deposit on 01/26 but it got delayed with the code 1121. Along with thousands of others claims because of tax changes the IRS was not ready for. This morning I had code 1201. I called and they said the refund was released and due to direct deposit on 02/16 this friday. With that code they should be able to give you more of an answer if you call the nuber given on Where's My Refund page. Good Luck

I thought I did due to an ammendment from 2007. He checked and found that I actually owed nothing. He said the delay could take 3 weeks and to call back on the 17th. I asked could he code my account that I owed nothing so my refund could get DD, he said "no". He said that it (the system) has to go through it's "checks" and it could take 3 weeks. I personally dont believe that. I believe it was going through it's "checks" when the date kept changing, so I have faith that it will be deposited tomorrow. A. code 1201 usually means you owe other taxes for something that they will be taking money out for and it is just taking Financial Management Services more time to get the money out, or they will be requesting more information from you soon for something on your return

A. I am in the same boat. I filed Jan16th and was accepted on the 18th. My first DD date was 1/30 then 2/10 then 24th and finally the 13th. Still haven't received it and am currently in code 1121 after being in 1221 for awhile. I was told I would receive a letter, which only informs you of what you already know within 3 weeks. It has been 3 weeks and still no letter. HMM! I wonder what could be going on? I get different answers when I call. We are definitely playing the waiting game. I will update if I get mine as well. good luck to you!

OMG!! HELP ME NOW "HSBC & H&R BLOCK"?
Q. Today i used my h&r block emerald card to sign up for a discount with t-mobile easypay and i know the card was no good because my refund never came. But the 1.00 dollar was approved "say what" so i called the card in and found out 1067.00 dollars was direct deposit on June 5 2009 BUT the balance say 00.87 cent then i go online it say no deposit of any kind and HSBC Taxpayer Financial Services website is down. I did my taxes at h&r block on 01/24/09 and because i owed the IRS they took 400.00 out of 1564.94 and gave me a reference number 1201 and 1067.00 dollars is that i was getting back but the IRS website still say reference number 1201

A. Call the IRS and get someone to look at your account and tell you a) how much refund actually was and b) what happened to the refund. The IRS can tell you how much was kept for a prior year return. The IRS can tell you how much was sent to HSBC. Then call HSBC. When you had your taxes done, you owed fees. With a RAL, you could have owed $$$...and if your refund wasn't what you thought it was, you could have ended up owing HSBC. (For example, if the refund was to include $600 rebate, you may have actually only qualifed for $0 rebate, less the $400 owed, less fees and now owe HSBC money.) Some people owe HSBC for prior returns and think that going to HRB instead, of say, Liberty Tax, is going to fool the bank.

Delay in processing tax return.?
Q. When I checked the status of my refund I got this message. === There is a delay in processing your tax return. For more information, please continue. If you have questions or need additional information, please have the following on hand when you call: A copy of this page. A copy of your tax return. The Social Security Number, Filing Status, and refund amount claimed on your return. Any notice that you have received concerning your refund. Please mention reference number 1201 to the IRS Customer Service Representative. === My husband owes back child support and he also owes the IRS from last year's tax. But he owes less than our refund amount. So why can't they just take what he owes and refund the difference?! Why do they have to "DELAY [cont.]

A. The wheels of the government turn VERY slowly. You will eventually hear from them. You may not get a refund IF what he owes in Child Support and back taxes equal to more than your refund. They are delaying it because they have to figure out how much your hubby owes. They will take out back Child Support too. This happened to me with my ex, he owed back taxes, they took the whole refund and he still owed another $200 - $300. I know it's frustrating to wait, but there isn't a set time frame as to when you will here from them

A. I don't have an personal experience in this, but with anything that is highly important to you and deals with your money should be taken very seriously. You have every right to call and ask why there was a delay and how long the delay might be. Honestly, if I were you I would call and say I would like to gain a better understanding of the situation and if I needed to be concerned. Best of luck.
