How do I determine the total processing speed of a computer with a processor with 2 cores?
Q. I am looking at laptops, and I came across a laptop with a Intel Core 2 Duo(SU7300) processor with 2 cores and it says the processing speed per core is 1.3 gHz. How do I determine the total processing speed?
Asked by Leonard - Sun May 23 17:44:28 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The total is still 1.3GHz, which is very slow. A single thread of a program will run at 1.3GHz, however because it has a dual core processor it can run two threads at that speed. A single thread will not run at 2.6GHz.

How much is the processing time for the New Zealand work permit application approval?
Q. I wanted to apply for NZ work permit but I have some questions in my mind. One of them is how much is the processing time for the application's approval once it has been lodged?I mean after how much time you are granted 5 years permit to work in NZ?Also, how much is the application fee? And the last question is if you have NZ work permit, does it mean that you can work in Aus as well? Thanks to reply
Asked by Roonie - Thu Apr 29 05:09:03 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The processing time will depend on more than one factor. First of all, are you a coming over with a skill, or as the partner of a kiwi? Do you already have a job offer? Where will you be lodging your application? The most you can get on a work permit, if you are skilled and have a job offer, is 2 years. And no, a New Zealand work permit does not mean you can work in Australia. Go to the New Zealand Department of Immigration website for more information.

How many Payment Processing services for a merchant account?
Q. How many payment processing options should a merchant account provider offer to the merchants? Is credit/debit card processing good enough or should other payment options like Ach processing, direct debit etc should also be provided?
Asked by fReeSpiRit - Tue Aug 14 01:26:07 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, it is better to have all the possible payment processing methods available namely; credit card, debit card, check, electronic check, and wire transfer. If you can offer all of these, then, you can cater to all the needs of merchants. I also, suggest that you offer unlimited volume transaction so you can cater to high volume businesses. Ideally, you've got to offer five.

What is the difference between batch and in-line processing when speaking about manufacturing?
Q. A quote from what I was reading: Silicon solar cell manufacturers are switching from batch manufacturing to inline processes to lower the cost per watt produced. This creates strong demand for BTUI products. Apart from the question above, how does in-line processing reduce cost? It'll be much appreciated if laymen terms could be used as far as possible.
Asked by lordxeragon - Thu Jun 26 22:48:36 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Imagine you are building cars. Batch processing is like a bunch of guys in a room building one car. When they are done, they gather all the parts needed and then build another. In-line processing means the fist guy lays down the frame, the next guy add a part, etc, until the car is done. In-line processing is harder to organize but once you plan it all out, it is far more efficient than batch processing. However there is more that can go wrong in in-line porcessing. If a process is delicate and unpredictable, it might not lend itself to this high-efficiency method.

A. Do some background research on your prospective credit card processing company. Ask people. Call fellow merchants and ask for their feedback. Most of all, try to get in touch with your Better Business Bureau office and get as much information as you can. If you want to read more, visit the link below.

What is the function of a credit card processing company? And What connection does it have with banks?
Q. I want to know the primary roles of a credit card processing company (ex. Flagship, First Data) and how do they function? Are they an independent company apart from the bank?
Asked by Kevin Pham - Sat Dec 26 04:11:19 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, they are an independent company separate from the bank, and they provide a number of services to banks. Consider you have just set up a small bank, and you want to issue (for example) Visa cards. There's a lot processes and infrastructure you would need to set up, and the processor can provide one (or all) of these services on your behalf if you choose to engage them: -- Card production: Printing and embossing the cards, and performing the cryptography to generate and mail the PIN numbers. -- Authorization: Providing computing services to authorize transactions against a credit limit. -- Fraud detection: Providing computing services to check incoming transactions against likely fraud (i.e. a transaction comes from Russia, but… [cont.]

What is the best way to get more processing speed for my recently purchased computer?
Q. It has a AMD athlon but the game I just bought says it needs more processing speed, Is there an external upgrade I can get, or do I need to just scrap my 1000 dollar computer and get the credit card back out.
Asked by AmberMatthewLandon H - Fri May 25 10:55:08 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well there definitely isn't an external way to upgrade the processing speed. You may be able to upgrade the processor on your motherboard but only as far as the motherboard will allow, which usually isn't very much. In terms of performance the cheapest fastest way to get more out of a computer is a memory upgrade. After that, as far as games are concerned, it would be the video card. But if you are lacking in sheer processing speed you may be looking at upgrading the motherboard, which means new motherboard / processor, memory, video card. So if it comes to that, then I would just return the computer and buy a new one because you'd basically be replacing everything inside of the old one.

How does one get into mining and material processing?
Q. I am looking towards my future and I see mining/ material processing as a good future. I am very good at math, chemistry and physics. I was wondering what degree I would do, I was thinking materials and process engineering or chemical engineering (preferably a course which is at many universities in the UK such as Imperial, Cambridge etc.) I was intrested in a position in mining which would get a high starting salary with a good chance of promotion. I was interested in the designing of mining tools and chemical processing plants. Thank you.
