What are signs of pregnancy before you even miss your period?
Q. I've had very sore nipples, am achy at times in my low abdomen and the other day had a large amt of white and brownish tinged sticky discharge.I took pregnancy tests which were negative 3 times. I'm sure everyone asks this but could they have been false negatives,do these seem like symptoms of pregnancy?Could the discharge have been implantation bleeding? Thank you so much!

A. I've never heard of implantation bleeding but I can tell you as far as pregnancy you do have sore nipples and whitish discharge. My sister took three tests that all came out negative and she was actually pregnant had to get a blood test to confirm it so it is possible that you are pregnant. I would wait till you miss your period for sure and retest then if you still have all the symptoms and no period its probably a good thing to make a doctors appt.Hope this helped and good luck!

Is there evidence that pregnancy causes the mother to develop an autoimmune disease?
Q. My grandmother and a cousin both developed severe rheumatic autoimmune diseases after pregnancy, when being previously fine before pregnancy. I have not been able to find any additional evidence of pregnancy causing an autoimmune disease to develop, but am wondering if anyone knows of a link between the two, either clinical or anecdotal. I realize that pregnancy has effects on women who already have autoimmune diseases, but am trying to weigh the risks of developing an illness from being pregnant. Any additional information would be very helpful. Thank you!
Asked by Amanda - Wed Nov 14 20:21:37 2007 - - 3 Answers - 2 Comments
A. What happens is that the disease is not active, but there, and flares after the delivery. Autoimmune diseases are "triggered" and often dormant. I have RA. It was triggered by strep throat at age 27. I probably got it at about age 23, when it was assumed I had carpal tunnels from being a pastry chef. Turns out, after having the electrical test for carpal tunnels, I didn't have carpal tunnels. I was experiencing the beginning of my RA those years back, without the full-blown symptoms I had once the strep throat came along. Now I have the full-blown RA. Keep in mind that giving birth is a traumatic event to your body and trauma can cause an autoimmune disease. People have been triggered into RA by car accidents, believe it or not.

When do the home pregnancy tests become effective and am i prego ?
Q. My boyfriend of 2 years and I had unprotected sex and we're afraid of the precum. I'm suppose to have my period in about 3 days, so will the home pregnancy tests work?
Asked by joanii3e - Fri Aug 14 02:26:21 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Early Responce tests can detect the pregnancy hormone up to 5 days before your missed period. For any other test, it's best to wait until you've missed a period. You do not have to wait 7+ days. The day after you miss is fine. Remember, for best results, test using your first morning urine. HCG (pregnancy hormone) levels are highest after "holding it" all night.

How long into your pregnancy was it before you started having early pregnancy symptoms?
Q. My husband and I do not use protection and we had sex last week sometime, not sure of the exact date, and I am not sure if what I am feeling could be pregnancy or it is al in my head. I felt sick on day and everything smelled bad, but it only lasted one day. My breasts are a little sore along the sides, but not enough to bother me. My face has been breaking out like crazy and I have more vaginal discharge than normal. Help?

A. It could be pregnancy symptoms. A lot of people will try and tell you that you cannot have symptoms that early, but, YES, you can! I did. I googled early pregnancy signs or symptoms...I can't remember which one and looked on a website and there are some strange things associated with pregnancy that most people don't think of. I would suggest that and go from there. If you are very familiar with your body, you will know if something different is going on. I would wait another week, though and test then. Good luck and baby dust to you!

How long does the pregnancy hormone last in a woman after giving birth?
Q. I gave birth in August and just yesterday I took a home pregnancy test and it came back positive. Is it picking up my last pregnancy?
Asked by GlitterSno75 - Tue Nov 21 12:17:04 2006 - - 5 Answers - 3 Comments
A. most likely not, you are pregnant. The levels of pregnancy hormones leave your body right after giving birth, it takes a total of 6 weeks. If you are breast feeding the chances are still low, the hormones needed to maintain a pregnancy and create milk are separate. To be super sure get a blood pregnancy test, getting pregnant right after having a baby is close to a sure thing...good luck

What are the chances of pregnancy if a condom is used inside out?
Q. I had sex about a week ago and my fiance pre-ejaculated and I accidentally put the condom on backwards. So I flipped the condom inside out and put it on the right way. My question is do you think that I can still get pregnant even if the condom has spermicide? Also I'd like to know when the ideal time is to take a pregnancy test?
Asked by Becca - Fri Aug 7 12:01:01 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There is always a chance, especially if the condom came in contact with his sperm, and then inside you. However, the chance is still slim, but it is, as always, there.

Does a normal 38 weeks pregnancy start from conception or implantation?
Q. Sperm can apparently live up to 7 days inside a woman. Does a 38 week pregnancy occur anytime from these 7 days or does a 38 week pregnancy start from implantation which happens something like 12 days after conception?
Asked by stowey - Wed Jul 15 11:50:01 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. An average pregnancy is considered to be 40 weeks counted from the first day of the last menstrual period. It is more common to count from the first day of the last menstrual period because date of conception is not easily determined. Even using an ovulation predictor kit or monitoring basal body temperature and cervical mucous, you can't know for sure when ovulation occurred. At best you will come up with a likely time frame to ovulate. In addition to the unknown factor of when the egg is released from the ovary, you also have the variable of how long sperm live inside a woman. Sperm do have potential to live inside a woman for several days, possibly as long as 6-7 days if conditions are optimal. After the egg has released from the ovary… [cont.]

Every pregnancy book I've read gives great emphasis to the importance of choice; choosing a good doctor or midwife, writing a birth plan and picking a great prenatal class. For women who don't have these options, being reminded that you don't have them is incredibly frustrating! I would love to have the services of a great and experienced midwife, write an extensive birth plan and attend a Bradley Method birth class. How will pregnancy effect a tattoo on my hip bone?
Q. I'm turning 16 this year and I want to get a tattoo for my birthday. I want to get it on my hip bone and I also want to have children in the future. I wanted to know how a pregnancy would affect my tattoo.
Asked by ksteelers124 - Sat Jun 21 17:42:11 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First, make sure you are old enough to be allowed to get a tattoo legally in your state. From a practical standpoint, a tattoo on the back or side of your hip will stretch less than one that is more on the belly, but you can expect any of them to stretch some and possibly not go back to normal. Also, make sure that the you know what chemicals are in the ink you are getting and research them online for safety and carcinogenicity before getting that tattoo. The last thing you need is an ink with a toxic chemical in it, especially when you get pregnant.

What does one pregnancy test saying yea and the other inconclusive mean?
Q. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. I'm 16 and i have to fake wanting a pap smear to find out. There is a mandatory pregnancy test in his office to get the depovera shot too, so I am also getting that. Is this a good idea, or is it something i should talk to my parents about?
Asked by Shelby C - Tue Sep 2 22:08:39 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First off, a pap test won't tell you if you are pregnant. If you were mature enough to lay down and have sex, you should be mature enough to tell your doctor you think you are pregnant and get tested. You need to talk to your parents. If you had a test come up positive, and you read that within the time limit, then yes, you are pregnant. Get ready to be a mother!

A. The external genitalia usually differentiates at week 12-13, but you can't get close enough to get a good look with an ultrasound. Usually around 16 weeks it's possible to see it with an ultrasound. It's most accurate at about 20 weeks though. Good Luck!

A. Do a veggie lovers, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, artichoke hearts, chicken, and you never know what else may fly when your preg, try some zuchini, yellow crooked neck squash, etc... Or do a taco pizza, use refried beans, hamburger and cheese. When it comes out of the oven top it with shredded lettuce, onions, olives, tomatoes and salsa, sour cream and guac...yummy!!!

How soon do pregnancy symptoms start to go away once blighted ovum is diagnosed?
Q. I had an ultrasound at 6w and there was a yolk sac, but my u/s at 7w4d showed an empty sac. I am now 8w4d and I am still having the same pregnancy symptoms and my hcg levels are still rising but are low and not raising very quickly. after the 7w4d u/s they were only about 7000. Why do I still feel pregnant?

A. You feel pregnant, because you are pregnant. Just because they told you that you have a blighted ovum does not mean that your pregnancy goes away right when diagnosed. You will need to wait for your body to naturally abort your pregnancy - or the doctor will need to do a d&c. Soon after either one, your symptoms will start to go away. After my miscarriage, my symptoms started fading away within a week. So sorry you have to go through this. I know what it's like. Good luck to you!
