A. First of all, I will assume you already know how to get to and book the Sheraton Grande and the only concern that you have is about getting from there to Osaka. Now, from that hotel, either walk or take a taxi to the Maihama Train Station. (You may want to go with taxi if you're unfamiliar with the area) If you have absolutely no idea how trains work in Japan, then contact me at o.miyawaki@gmail.com I can provide further info about that. Buy a ticket that is eligible to go to the Tokyo Train Station, and don't forget to ride on the train going to the right direction. Once you're at the Tokyo train station, look for the word, Shinkansen (bullet train) which will take you to the major cities across Japan. The train station is extremely… [cont.]

How to take the train from Narita Japan to downtown Osaka?
Q. I want to go from Narita Station to Namba station on Nankai railway in Osaka. Yes, from Narita Station, although I could start just as easily from the Narita Airport. I am going to the Swiss Hotel which is at the Namba Station. TokyoE is correct, taking a flight is a major hassle not to mention that trains are so much more reliable. Plus for less money than flying coach on a plane you can upgrade to first class on the train. So much better!

A. From Narita Station and not Narita Airport right? From Narita Station the best thing you can do is take a JR Rapid service train to Tokyo Station (only one train an hour), the train takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Tokyo Station. At Tokyo Station you want to take the "Shinkansen" Bullet train from Tokyo Station to Shin-Osaka Station. This ride is about 2.5 - 3 hours. This part is all by JR trains so this will cost you around 14,000-15,000 Yen. At Shin-Osaka Station you need to change to the Osaka City Subway Midousuji Line. The Midousuji Line goes all the way to Namba Station on the subway line. All you do at Namba subway station is walk to the Nankai Namba Station. That ride will cost 270yen and take 15 minutes. A. I live in Colorado, and -When my parents send me stuff, it takes less than a week (My parents live in Osaka). -When I buy stuff online that is coming from Japan, it usually takes one week to two weeks (It think it varies because of processing and actual time they spend before ship the product out). So more than that, you might need to contact the seller and see if they have the policy on how long you have to wait. One thing that gets me is that I can't usually buy Japanese game directly from Japanese merchant (DVD either). Did you buy from individual using ebay or something? It is possible that custom did not allow that item to come into U.S... that happened to my friend who is living in Japan and ordered DVD from US. He got call… [cont.]

How Do I Get To Shinsaibashi, Osaka from Shinjuku?
Q. Hey everyone I wanted to visit Shinsaibashi in Osaka but I wanted to get detailed directions from Shinjuku to there. This includes but not limited to what train to take, which exit to take, and such, if anyone has anything to contribute it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A. 1. If you have enough money, I recommend you taking Shinkansen (bullet train). Ride on Hikari or Nozomi from Tokyo station to Shin-Osaka station. At Shin-Osaka, transfer to subway station. Ride on subway train for Nakamozu or Tennouji, and get off a train at the 6th station (M19). It is Shinsaibashi station. See source for details. 2. If you have not many money but much time and patience, I recommend you taking highway bus. Buses start from Shinjuku for Namba. From Namba to Shinsaibashi, I recommend you walking. See source for details.

When should I buy a Shinkansen ticket to Osaka?
Q. Hi, I am planning to go to Osaka from Tokyo next Saturday by Shinkansen. I have most of the info I need, but when should I buy the ticket? Is it possible to buy the ticket on Saturday on my way to Tokyo station or should I buy it earlier? And one more thing, what is the difference between Hikari/Kodama and the Nozomi? I observed that Nozomi is a little expensive but apart from that what is the difference between them? Thanks a million
Asked by Bisrtg - Sun Nov 23 20:44:54 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you want a reserved seat, then it is better to buy your ticket earlier (just because there may be no seats left in reserved) - you have to get reserved seat tickets from a JR ticket desk, but you can buy non-reserved tickets right before you get the train, either from the ticket desk or the automated ticket machine. Non-reserved seating is usually in the first 3 cars. The difference between the trains is the number of stops - Kodama is the slowest, stopping at every station. Hikari stops at fewer stations than Kodama but more than Nozomi. Nozomi is the fastest, and only stops at Nagoya and Kyoto between Osaka and Kyoto.

What are some recommended hotels Near Osaka Castle Hall?
Q. I'll be spending 4 days and 3 nights in Osaka in June. Since funds are limited, we're not looking to go anywhere that we cannot just walk to (we lived in New York, so we're used to walking a lot). Reason I'm asking near the Hall is because of a Koda Kumi concert being held there that we have tickets to. What are some fairly cheap hotels near the area? We're getting desperate! Please and thank you!

A. I usually fly through IAD (or DCA) at least once a day, but I haven't seen a direct flight to Osaka in a few years. I know that United used to fly a direct route several times a week, but that was cancelled a few years ago. But if you've got the ticket, I'm probably just missing something =] By the way, would you mind letting me know what carrier flies there nonstop? It might be useful if I ever get around to visiting my friend, haha. That being said, IAD to NRT (Tokyo) took 13h40 last time I flew it on ANA, so flight time to Osaka should be comparable. Have a nice flight, and hope this helps!

A. From Osaka, you can take lots of day trips to cut down on your expenses (no hotels, just train fare). Nara is a good day trip - just check out the tourist info centre when you get off the train. They will give you an English map for walking around Nara. Kyoto is also worth a few days (look for a cheap/inexpensive hotel online... I found one a few years ago on hotwire.com.) Check out any guidebook or online travel source for things that interest you in Kyoto. THere are tons of temples, restaurants, etc. The national museum is excellent. In Osaka - the restaurants are amazing. It:s hard to find a bad one. Tsuruhashi area has lots of Korean places, and consult your friends for places they like. For rail, it's best to take the Kanjo sen, the circle line. Get on the circle line at JR Shinimamiya (It's a raised railway, you don't need to go down any stairs). and go to JR Nishikujo. Then change to the Sakurajima line at that station, and USJ is something like three stops down the line. Is there a tour package to mt fuji/hakone area from osaka?
Q. three of us will be in osaka from dec 21 to dec 27 and hope to visit mt fuji/hakone area for a day, preferably on dec 23 or dec 24. If no tour package is available, what's the best way to go and visit that area?

A. There are many package tours offered by one of the biggest travel agencies JTB from Tokyo to Hakone or Mt fuji If you are able to read Japanese, pls see below. If not, suggest you to go to the big JTB offices in Osaka where they can offer you English speaking staff. ( I think there is a big one just at basement of Yodobashi in Umeda near to Osaka JR station?) Ask if they can arrange from Osaka. If not, you may take the Shinkansen to Tokyo to join the package tour and may consider to spend one day or two in Tokyo in addition. Ropponki is very beautifully decorated for Christmas. Enjoy and merry christmas.
