What's the difference between negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia?
Q. i read this about schizophrenia... could someone explain it Schizophrenia is often described in terms of positive and negative (or deficit) symptoms.[16] The term positive symptoms refers to symptoms that most individuals do not normally experience but are present in schizophrenia. They include delusions, auditory hallucinations, and thought disorder, and are typically regarded as manifestations of psychosis. Negative symptoms are things that are not present in schizophrenic persons but are normally found in healthy persons, that is, symptoms that reflect the loss or absence of normal traits or abilities. Common negative symptoms include flat or blunted affect and emotion, poverty of speech (alogia), inability to experience pleasure (anhed [cont.]

A. Yes, there is a difference between positive and negative symptoms in schizophrenia. People most commonly get confused because they think of a different definition for these terms. Positive=good. Negative=bad. That isn't how it works in schizophrenia. Think of it like money. Positive=you have something. Negative=you don't have something. So, using that definition, positive symptoms are things that schizophrenics experience that mentally healthy people do not. It is considered positive because they have something that other people do not. Like what you read said, what they have that others don't is hallucinations, delusions, and thought disorders. If you took a test that determined whether or not you hallucinate (there isn't… [cont.]

What are 3 negative character traits of Pip from Great Expectations?
Q. What are 3 negative character traits, and what proof is there in the book (page numbers)? What are 3 positive and negative traits of Estella? What are Pip and Estella's physical traits?
Asked by Anna - Tue Aug 24 14:58:56 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't have a book, so this is solely from memory. Keep in mind that I'm in college now and read this in 9th grade. Pip is kind of a pushover. He is unsure of himself. Also, he is a bit whiny. Estella is strong willed. That's as far as I can go. Negatively, she is unfairly biased, rude, and a bit sadistic. Pip I think is blond, and most likely Estella is. I am taking this from his South Park incarnation, btw, so I really am not sure. Mrs. Joe was described as having ruddy skin, I think, and dark hair, but I think that was to really distinguish her from Pip.

How a 35mm negative or a digital file is printed in a color lab? What is digital printing?
Q. How a 35mm negative or slide is enlarged/printed in a photo color lab?(both conventionally & digitally). What about digital files? Are they printed with a inkjet or chemically? Why it is said that a negative should be scanned to get better results? Many many thanks.
Asked by Amitabha B - Thu Jul 2 13:13:46 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Everything is done digitally these days, because it is cheaper and quicker, so the negative gets scanned to produce a digital file, and the print image is produced by a variation of the familiar computer printer. You can still get negatives printed using an enlarger, photo emulsion paper and chemical development if you want to, but you will pay much more for the pleasure.

What negative connotations does dreaming the number four hold?
Q. About a year ago, I had two dreams in quick succession that involved the number four. These were nightmares in which the number four was a very sinister part of my dream. In my waking life, I notice the number everywhere (which very well may be because of my curiosity as to its meaning). Recently, I had another nightmare involving Four. Does anyone know of some negative connotations the number four holds? Any information from any culture would be interesting.

A. This site has lots of information about the symbolism of different numbers. I suggest you read the interview with Isha Lerner also - in the Inner Child cards four symbolizes completion, moving to the next stage, or building something new on a solid foundation.

How do I show negative times on Excel 2007 chart axis, with 1904 date system already enabled?
Q. I am working with negative times in Excel 2007. I have already the 1904 date system enabled. The negative times are correctly shown in the sheets. However, the axis of my charts show only the positive time labels. The data points are ok.
Asked by Michael - Wed Apr 29 19:51:33 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I just made a XY Scatter chart with negative times on the X-axis and it worked fine. Make sure you make an XY Scatter graph subtype: data with connected lines and not a Line graph. One of the most confusing issues to an Excel charting newcomer is the distinction between Line charts and XY Scatter charts. The major difference between Line charts and XY Scatter charts is in their treatments of the category (X) data. A Line chart treats the input as non-numeric, categorical information, equally spaced along the X axis. This is appropriate for categorical data, such as text labels, but can produce unexpected results when the X values consist of numbers. A Scatter chart treats the X values as continuously variable numeric data.

How do I dispute negative items on my credit report?
Q. I have one negative item on my credit report. How do I dispute this item? I have heard that if you dispute an item and that particular company does not acknowledge it can be removed from the report all together. Is this true, and how do I go about doing this? The negative item is from Mac Tools Distribution, if that will help. There is an address on my report although there is no phone number. Do i need to call them, or a different source?
Asked by Big "O" - Tue Jun 24 13:12:59 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Big O... You have to write or type ( I cant remember which one)the credit reporting agency a formal letter and it has to be done in a certain way... They have books at the book store on how to do it.. If the negative item is legit. I can tell you through experience they are not going to remove it... Make sure you check all three credit reports . Experian, Trans Union, and Equafax.. Also while you are at it make sure you have them correct any mistakes on it to clean it up so it looks nice and neat when creditors pull it up.. Mistakes can be taken care of over the phone once you actually have the credit reports by all three . Hope this helped you...God bless you !

What is Negative Pressure and how does it work?
Q. I keep hearing about it in TV Shows, Medical terms but am unsure how it actually works. My understanding is traps air in the one spot, and prevents particles from leaving the 'negative' area.
Asked by Garion W - Fri May 2 02:20:31 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Negative pressure is in other words vacuum. Where there is a vacuum, the air from the surrounding areas rush to this area to bring the system in equilibrium. There is a heavy flow of air from all over and it brings sudden temperature change, storm and rains.

How does negative and positive feedback keep a hockey skater alive if he fell through the ice?
Q. Two hockey players aer skating on a frozen pond. One skater falls through the ice into the water. Explain how negative feedback can keep the skater who fell in alive. Explain how positive feedback can provide physical assistance to the friend trying to save him.
Asked by Erica O - Sun Apr 27 15:25:19 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Two kinds of system protect the skater who went through the ice. The first kind involves the body's homeostatic system, an array of negative-feedback loops that regulate the internal environment, including core temperature. A reduction in temperature will trigger increased metabolic activity to maintain a healthy temperature. The second kind, vasoconstriction, is not a feedback system but rather open-loop. This reduces heat loss by constricting the blood vessels at the body's surface. It is triggered by sensed external-environment coldness rather than core temperature reduction. As for the rescuer, this is more difficult. I suppose you could consider the use of an ice awl a kind of positive feedback. You jam it into the ice in such an… [cont.]

How will negative equity in a home affect a tax lien or foreclosure?
Q. I have a home that has negative equity, probably $50k or more. I also have a tax lien for ~$3500. I will be losing my job in about a month's time and it will not be possible to pay my mortgage. If I just walk away from the home am I still responsible for the tax lien?
Asked by Scott - Wed Oct 28 23:32:02 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If it is a property tax lien, the lien will follow the property and Uncle Sam always gets paid first. If you walk away your house will obviously be foreclosed upon, but not necessarily will your debt disappear. In fact that $50K of negative equity will increase due to the expenses your lender will incur as a result of the foreclosure and now a days lenders usually come after you for the difference between what the house is eventually liquidated for and what you still owe. Sorry. To avoid the extra expenses of the foreclosure you could simply offer the "deed in lieu" of foreclosure to your lender.

What makes an emotion negative or positive?
Q. And for that matter how do you define negativity and positivity? I suppose you would define something negative to be harmful and harm relates to death which is uncertain. So everything "negative" is really defined by uncertainty and everything "positive" is the opposite. This I gain from my current perspective of our society. Any other perspectives? @Z: Thanks for putting up with my rants, I think you and the rest of the posters have convinced me that thinking about these things is a lose-lose game which just results in confusion. I appreciate the compassion.
Asked by ? - Sun Nov 15 13:36:02 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no positive or negative emotion. Only reactions to emotions have polarity. Generally, a reaction is positive if it is constructive to ones body, environment, or community. A reaction is negative if it is destructive to the same. But no emotion, in and of itself, has polarity. Love, for example, is extremely destructive for a wife-beater. And hate can be extremely constructive when attacking racism or oppression. Sadness, when handled well, is a therapeutic mental release. And happiness, when handled badly, leads to apathy to other's plights.

A. Negative exponents only mean that the number lies in the denominator. So... -2^(-6) = -1 / (2^6) = -1/64 <--- 2^6 = 64 So your answer is -1/64

What are the negative aspects of pharmacy?
Q. My cousin has an interview for pharmacy in a week. One of the popular questions at the interview is "what are the negative aspects of pharmacy" When I first heard this question, I didn't know how to answer it. Since its an interview, we can't say something very negative else the interviewer might ask why she even chose to pursue pharmacy then. So the answer has to be something negative about pharmacy but not too negative so the interviewer doens't say why you even wnat to be a pharmacist then.

I would have to say lack of qualified individuals to fill needed positions. with the laws that require a certain pharmicist to tech ratio and the fact that in some parts of the country there is a lack of pharmacists, well, the pharmacists that are there can be very overworked. We have had that issue at 2 retail companies that Ihave worked for, and in multiple locations within this state for both companies.

What are the negative effects of eating only one meal a day?
Q. I am a college student and life is hectic. For that reason, I really only eat one real meal a day. I snack on foods, but I usually only eat a lot around lunch time, while I eat nothing for breakfast and just snack for dinner. I am trying to drop a few plans, so I am working out everyday, but I am not trying to do any "dangerous dieting." I want to be healthy. My questions is how bad is this for my body? What are the negative effects? Will it hurt my hunt for weight lose? Any help is appreciated?
Asked by Anthony - Wed Sep 10 02:28:52 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I know from experience that it will end up wearing you out! You need foods in the morning to give you energy! I know people say carbs are bad but they arent, you need some sort of carbs or something to make your body produce energy! But it is better to eat your heaviest during the day so that the food doesn't just sit in your body. I know that your body may do a "reverse effect" because you don't eat... when you do actually consume the food your body will "grab" for the food and you may pack on weight (i was told that from a nutritionist). I dunno... i racked my brain and you said that any help is appreciated and i gave you all i've got! Hope this helps some. =)

What does a negative pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound mean?
Q. Recently had ultrasounds done due to pain in my pelvic area. I am unhappy with my current doctor because she hasn't explained anything to me (which is why I am asking these questions here). I have found a new doctor but do not have an appointment for awhile. They gave me the results from the unltrasound. It says I have polycystic ovaries (which I understand what that means) and a negative pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound. What does that last part mean?
Asked by dreamer - Sat Jul 24 11:17:17 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is only speculation - But my thinking is that they found nothing that might indicate anything cancerous. PCOS would show up as tiny little cysts in the ovaries - but the ovaries didn't show any abnormalities indicative of cancer. You might reveive better answers - I had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound to see if there was any indication of ovarian cancer (my mom had ovarian cancer.) and they told me it was negative - the ovaries showed no suspicious abnormalities.
