Outline of France (links hundreds

France (pronounced /ˈfræns/ ( listen) or /ˈfrɑːns/; French: [fʁɑ̃s]), officially the French Republic (French: République française, pronounced: [ʁepyblik fʁɑ̃sɛz]), is a country located in Western Europe, with several overseas islands and territories located on other continents. Metropolitan France extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea, and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. It is often referred to as L’Hexagone ("The Hexagon") because of the geometric shape of its territory. France is a unitary semi-presidential republic with its main ideals expressed in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Metropolitan France is bordered (clockwise from the north) by Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Andorra, and Spain. France's overseas departments and collectivities also share land borders with Brazil and Suriname (bordering French Guiana), and the Netherlands Antilles (bordering Saint-Martin). France is linked to the United Kingdom by the Channel Tunnel, which passes underneath the English Channel. France is the largest country in the European Union by area and the second largest in Europe behind Ukraine (first if one includes its extra-European territories like Guadeloupe). France has been a major power for many centuries with strong economic, cultural, military and political influence. During the 17th and 18th centuries, France colonized much of North America; during the 19th and early 20th centuries, France built the second largest empire of the time, including large portions of North, West and Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and many Pacific islands. France is a developed country and possesses the fifth largest economy by nominal GDP and eighth largest economy by purchasing power parity. It is the most visited country in the world, receiving 82 million foreign tourists annually. France is one of the founding members of the European Union, and has the largest land area of all members. It is also a founding member of the United Nations, and a member of the Francophonie, the G8, NATO, OECD, WTO and the Latin Union. It is one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, possesses the third largest number of nuclear weapons in the world and the largest number of nuclear power plants in the European Union. GNU Free Documentation License What was France doing during the Industrial Revolution? Q. I have a school project, and I need to know what France was doing during the Industrial Revolution. Asked by Akashi - Wed Dec 13 18:23:03 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. France was part of "the" Industrial Revolution, along with England, some key German city-states. France had benefited from the Agricultural Revolution of the 17th and 18th centuries, as most of Europe had. And it had the intellectual capital, infrastructure (roads and ports, a postal service, central recordkeeping, a standing army) to engage in trade and diplomany equally with if not in superiority to most of the world. France lacked some of England's success in the Industrial Revolution, and the difference may be attributable to the treasure it spent on revolution, wars and empire-building during the key period of 1750-1850, when the English were busy with their Industrial Revolution, and with repelling Napoleon. I'm planning a trip, and I need to know of some little towns in France that have beautiful wheatfields and pretty countrysides. What are some locations and if you can, pictures? Thanks. Try Loire Valley, or Bourgogne, or Alsace or for warmer and drier climates and ground the Provence. Answered by Cabal - Thu Jan 15 16:38:50 2009 How do I make a phone call to France from the UK?
Q. I'm trying to call to someone in France but when I dial the number I just get an odd beeping noise. I've never made an international call before so I've no idea what I'm doing wrong. The phone number listed on the website is: +33 (0)8 xx xx xx xx Any help would be much appreciated! Asked by Poppy - Sat Jun 7 13:53:37 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. The 0 is in brackets as you do not dial it if you are outside of the country. You must dial 00 where the + sign is. When you call France and the phone rings, you get a beep, a pause, and another beep for ringing. It is like morse code. When you call the UK the ring tone is shorter for a ringing tone. In France, it is a longer ring tone. Answered by Omgitshim1 - Sat Jun 7 14:05:30 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "france" France Telecom Buys 100% Of UK Digital Ad Network Unanimis
