What is the Notice CP-05 from the IRS?
Q. My refund is on Hold and yesterday I received a letter from the IRS, Notice CP-05, saying that they are conducting a review of the taxes and that I have to wait 3 weeks to get either my refund or they won't issue any refund and I can appeal. Does someone know what this mean?

A. It means that they are reviewing your return, this could be due to a number of issues, You can call the number on the letter to get more information as it applies to you, or call 1-800-829-1040. Most reviews are in regards to the Earned Income Credit, or a dependant being claimed

A. The bottom line is the reps at "where's my refund" tell you anything to get you off of the phone. I recvd cp05 letter, called 3 weeks later, was told "I am sending over a letter to release your return", " you should have it in 2 weeks" that has been 2 weeks, called today and was told " they have a month from the day that release notice was sent". It seems to me that they do not know what they are talking about, not any of them. They are behind and they will not admit it so they are placing the blame on innocent tax payers by saying we are being "reviewed". They can review me all they want. I have proof of everything I claimed. We are truly at their mercy at this point!

I got my cp-05 letter today from the irs. Should I send in an amended 1040 x?

I know I made a mistake in that i switched a few boxes on accident because i was using my last paystub..i know stupid, but it says they have 3 weeks to either send a refund, request information, or deny refund. I dont want them to think i did this on purpose and deny my refund although it says do not send anything in at this time. What should i do?? Thanks

About the IRS cp-05 and reference code 9021.?
Q. I just got off the phone with the IRS. My refund says it "WAS" direct deposited on FEB 27 2009. My refund was changed due to the recovery rebate and i got a reference #9021 which i found out is a math error so i got more. Now the rep says a cp-05 was mailed out (wheres my refund said a letter would be mailed). would a cp05 tell me that im just getting more on the refund. I still have not gotten the money nor has the Wheres my refund changed. I read most people who got like 1120 or 1201 errors had wheres my refund change the day or next week after the DD date passed. I swear you cant get any clear answers out of any phone rep. HSBC said if it was deposited on feb 27th it should post tomorrow. i guess if it dont post tomorrow then they didnt… [cont.]

A. if they are sending you a CP05 it means it is a delay on your refund as its being reviewed, i would not count on the money being there till they have cleared the mistake, i had the same deposit date but when i called it showed nothing, still under review (wiating for cp05 that takes a month). Q. We were told that are taxes were delayed, but no reason given. we had are taxes done on jan.16, 2009. The IRS says we will receive a CP-05 notice dating the 16th of Feb. We did file for the first time home buyers credit this year and also we have three children, so the earned income credit as well. Just wondering if anyone knows how long it will actually take for us to receive our refund. We payed Jackson Hewlett 308.00 for the 8-15 return,,,but its gonna be well over 30 by what the Irs is saying and maybe longer.

Basically you get the letter one month to the day from when you were initially supposed to get your refund to begin with. Like we filed Feb 2nd and the refund was supposed to be deposited on Feb 15th and 4 weeks later we get the CP-05 letter. Now we're supposed to wait another 3 weeks for either the refund or another letter. So, I want to know if anyone is getting their refunds? Thanks! A. Same issue here. Filed Feb. 4 (e-file), expected refund Feb. 15. State refund arrived then, but no Federal refund. Went to the IRS "Where's My Refund" link and on March 4 it showed a code 1221 (Refund Delayed) and on March 14 it showed a code 1121 (P-Freeze). Got my CP-05 letter today (March 18).. A. Do not redo your taxes. You need to amend. Whenever you use software and it imports old data, it is your responsibility to verify it. The IRS won't accept the excuse that the software did it.

A. Do not redo your taxes. You need to amend. Whenever you use software and it imports old data, it is your responsibility to verify it. The IRS won't accept the excuse that the software did it.

I call him he doesn't answer and his voicemail does not have room for me to leave a message. So today I called the IRS spoke with a very nice rep who actually tried to help me, he said that the date that he showed in the comupter for the advocate is like 3 weeks ago, incorrect!!! He filled out some kind of a referral for me and said that I would have to wait another three weeks, what really sucks is that I am almost sure they are reviewing it do to EIC which I claimed because I was nice enough to take custody of my nieces instead of letting them go to a foster home, but look who… [cont.]
