What is the best connection to use from my cable box to TV?
Q. Currently I have a coax cable connecting my digital cable box to my TV. I recently found out that this is not the best connection. It appears that I do not have HDMI or component ports on my cable box but I do have an S-video port. Should I connect the cable box to the tv by S-video? If I do so, will I also need to connect the two with an audio cable? I don't understand why any connector (hdmi, component, s-video) from my cable box to tv would improve the connection over coax. The cable line (from the outside) that goes into the cable box is coax. Why would it improve if the cable goes through the coax and then one of the above connections??? Isn't the quality already diminished due to the coax cable from the outside??? I'm a… [cont.]

A. First off you NEED a HD box from your cable company. Then you need a HDMI cable or Component Cable (red, blue, green) with audio(red, white). Both will give you better picture than you have know. HDMI does audio and video Digital cable is sent to your box via numbers 0's and 1's which you cable box "converter" translates into a picture.

How do I make a wireless connection work on my laptop?
Q. I live in a house with wireless internet and it works on most of the laptops and all of the desktops. We just select the connection in the Wirless Connections box and it works fine for everyone else. But for my laptop it doesn't. It shows up in the wireless connections box but I try and connect and it gives me an error message after trying to connect. It says that the connection is "hidden" and I need to change it. What do I do?

Flying alone for first time and I have a connection? How do they work?
Q. In July I'm going to visit my relatives in North Carolina. I will be flying from Buffalo to Raleigh, but all the flights from Buffalo to Raleigh have a connection. I'm 16 and it will be my first time flying alone so I'm sort of nervous about it especially the connection. My parents are going to book either U.S. Airways with a connection in Charlotte or Southwest with a connection in Baltimore. I don't understand how connections work though. When I get to the connection city, do I stay on the plane while some get off and new passengers get on, or do I get off and go to another plane? If I go to another plane, do I have to pick up my bags from the baggage claim or do they take it straight to the other plane?
Asked by Joseph C - Thu May 24 21:56:49 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'll switch planes. When you exit, you'll already be in the right area -- you won't have to go through security again, or anything. You will just have to head to your gate number and weight. Usually you have way more time than you need -- it should only take ten to fifteen minutes. You might want to take that time to grab some food at the airports, they'll be located in that same area. Your luggage will be taken care of for you; you won't have to deal with that.

Can I start a wireless connection with a cable broadband connection?
Q. Hello, I have comcast broadband internet access and have some video games that I want to connect to the online world. My brother says he started a wireless connection with his broadband cable connection and now he plays videogames online. Does anyone has any info about this?
Asked by Ben - Mon Jul 7 22:09:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you have a broadband connection, then you can play online with anyone as long as you have set up the accounts at the game sites. You do not have to be "wireless" to do this. Just connect the game console to your modem or (better yet) router Wireless just replaces the cable to the router with radio

How do i improve my connection to xbox live?
Q. I have high speed cable internet. I use a wireless connection with a top of the line linksys router. I have the xbox 360 adapter on my xbox to receive the signal, but my connection to xbox live is extremely laggy. I have 2 computers in my house one is connected directly to the router, and the other is connected wirelessly. Both computers run internet perfectly. What can I change to fix my connection to my xbox?
Asked by Zac E - Sun Dec 7 12:22:23 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are a few things that can interrupt the strength of the signal: 1) Other computers connected to the network 2) Distance the Xbox is from the router 3) Interference, like having the Xbox inside a dresser, or having the router send signals to your Xbox through walls 4) Are you using file sharing programs like Limewire or BitTorrent? These programs can slow the connection greatly. Hope you figure out what the problem is

Is there an easy way to share a dialup connection on an office network?
Q. In my office at work, we have a network with a high speed internet connection. However, sometimes we need to transmit data over a dialup connection. This only happens a few times a day, but sometimes different people are trying to use the dialup connection at the same time and we only have one line dedicated to a dialup connection. So my question is, is there a way to share that dialup connection with different computers so they don't have to wait for the other user to disconnect?
Asked by bdeyre - Tue Jul 17 12:06:11 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are network dial up modems. You use the network to access the shared dial up. However, if one person is now using it, all other users are waiting in queue. Your system administrator should be able to purchase and install such a unit. They used to cost about $400 which is pretty high.

A. Its really easy. First you have to share the broadband connection, to do that you have to go to the properties of My Networking Places, then go to the properties of the dial up which connects broadband, go to the Advance tab and click on share. After sharing your LAN card address will autometically assign to 192.168.0.1, when ask for that click on yes. Now go to the second PC. Then properties of My networking places then propoerties of Local area connection double click on "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)" asgine IP Address=192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask= 255.255.255.0 Gateway=192.168.0.1 DNS= 192.168.0.1 And you are done.

What is connection between phone and wireless router?
Q. I purchased a new portable phone for the house and every time it rings I lose my computer connection to the wirless router. Sometimes I can restart and it is alright and sometimes I have to uninstall and then reinstall the wireless software before it will work. I think the frequency's are to close together but that is just my opinion. What is the solution, please.
Asked by Cuz - Mon Dec 15 12:37:04 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You're right, it's the radio frequencies. You might want to look for a phone in another frequency range. You could also try changing the channel on your router, but most phones scan channels...so that might not be effective.

A. If you have CDMA, then go to Reliance Web-World and write an application to them providing all necessary details like your name, address, old connection number etc etc...It will be done so easily, just call them if you are having any problems... If you have GSM, then no need of writing anything, just insert your SIM card to the new phone !

How do I make a wireless Internet connection work?
Q. I've got a laptop that can support wireless connection. Currently I've got Internet through broadband ADSL, but I was thinking of using this connection on the desktop computer and use wireless on the laptop. So what do I need? I've heard something about routers and wireless adaptors, but how exactly do these work? Will they work with ADSL? Are there specific routers/adaptors depending on the type of the connection, or any one will do?
Asked by Stefania - Fri Aug 21 12:23:03 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Any router will do and will connect to your wireless adapter in your laptop. If your's is an ADSL connection (phone line based with a USB out) then you will probably be better to get a modem-router. This will replace your exisitng modem with a device that can also relay the internet wirelessly to your laptop - and a hard wired connection to your desktop at the same time. Buy Netgear or D-Link or LinkSys brands

How can I improve my xbox live connection?
Q. I have a wireless connection and a powerful router. Just recently my connection has been very poor. At random times (sometimes ever 2 minutes, sometimes every 2 hours) my game lags out and I'm booted from my xbl party. Any advice on how to make my connection better again?

A. You could possible switch to a wired connection between a long ethernet cable that goes directly into your router for maximum speed. Or you could get an extended usb cable to get your xbox 360 wireless adapter out in the open and away from obstructions.

A. Make sure you have an Open NAT. I have several friends who have moderate, or poor and they can never join my games... If not, call the Customer Support and/or call comcast. If you don't have an Open NAT, call comcast and ask them to open it. Sometimes, it costs money for them to open it up, but if you are a hardcore gamer or just a really dedicated gamer, for a few bucks, it's worth it.

A. Yes If you point your web browser to 192.168.0.1, there should be options to set up a WEP or WPA secured wireless access point (don't worry about the abbreviations, suffice it to say they are ways of securing the connection. You'll definitely want WPA over WEP) You can set a password there, then give Windows that password as well. Then your connection will be secured.

How Do i get my Computer to connect to my Cable Internet connection?
Q. My Computer is a regular dell desktop, i reformatted it, and now every time i try to connect to the internet nothing happens, and it won't connect. It connected before i reformatted it. There's no connection in my connections. I create a new connection, i choose broadband that's always connected without a password. It says click finish and it should be connected, and then there's no new connection in the connection folder and internet still doesn't work. What do i Do?

A. You probably reinstalled Windows but you didn't reinstall the drivers. Go to the Dell web site (with another computer and a flash drive) to the service area, choose "service tag", put in your service tag number (it's on a sticker on the back of the computer) and download all the drivers for your computer to the flash drive. Bring the flash drive to your computer and install the drivers..

A. Another router is bad! You will need a hub or switch, In the networking world we hate hubs because how they work, but you something like this it would work fine. So you just plug the cable in from the router into the switch/hub, then the 2 cables from both computers into it. Here a picture of a hub and a switch I recommend a hub. It will be cheaper.

What is the connection between area and phone number?
Q. What is the connection between area and phone number? Not area code but the first 3 digits. For example a my number could be 1-(222)-333-444. Now, most of my neighbors and people in the area also have 333 before their last 4 digits. Is there some sort of data base where I can look up these 333 types and see what general city or area the number is from other than of course the area code? Thanks! not area code
Asked by Needs An Answer - Fri Jun 15 14:14:29 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In the old days (and in some countries , even now) all telephone switching was done via mechanical relays. Each number in the phone number represents a switch center closer to your home. So 333 may simply be a switch center that serves numbers 0001 to 999. For security reasons, I doubt you will find any public data on telephone switch centers.
